The innovative Hybrid Multiple Unit IMPULS 2 type 36WEh is the first Polish rail vehicle which, apart from electric drive, also has diesel drive, which allows it to be operated on non-electrified railway routes. Combining innovative technologies in the new IMPULS has resulted in a much wider  functionality and the range of the vehicle applications for train operators while also dramatically increasing comfort of travelling for passengers.

During 13th TRAKO 2019 International Railway Fair in Gdańsk, NEWAG S.A. was awarded the main prize in a prestigious Ernest Malinowski Contest for products and innovations applied in the rail industry. The innovative Hybrid multiple Unit IMPULS 2 type 36WEh, which won the contest, had its official presentation there.

Available train configurations

The IMPULS 2 structure, in particular, the frame structure, makes it possible to configure the floor height at 620 and 760mm. Moreover, it is possible to configure the multiple unit with a variable number of doors, depending on carriers’ requirements.

IMPULS 2 multiple units also be fitted with a diesel power module which can be connected with the vehicle as a separately coupled drive module or it can constitute a part of the trainset.

Apart from various trainset lengths, different passenger compartment layouts are possible which makes it possible to operate these multiple units not only on urban and suburban but also on long-distance routes.
