On March 4, 2016, in Gdynia, two IMPULS 31WE trains manufactured by NEWAG S.A. for PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska in Trójmiasto were officially handed over.
The ceremony, which started with a ride on the new train on the route Gdańsk Główny — Gdynia Cisowa, was attended by representatives of the local authorities, management of PKP SKM Trójmiasto and NEWAG S.A.
“We wish to congratulate SKM Trójmiasto on their 15th anniversary. We are glad that NEWAG’s IMPULS trains will be the first brand new electric multiple units which will service the routes of SKM Trójmiasto. I would like to add that this year NEWAG is also celebrating the 140th anniversary of its founding,” said Zbigniew Konieczek, President of NEWAG S.A. “ Our IMPULS trains are cutting-edge EMUs which stand out not only due to their design but which also provide comfortable and safe travelling conditions,” added Mr Konieczek.
The two new IMPULS trains produced by NEWAG S.A. for SKM Trójmiasto under the contract signed on 23 March 2015, are four-unit trains 74 400mm long with passenger capacity of 529, including 359 standing capacity and 170 seating capacity. They differ from the IMPULS 31WE trains produced so far by the number of doors and the floor level. At the carrier’s request, each car has four doors and the floor height is adapted to the SKM platform level (960mm), which is higher by 200mm as compared with the standard version of IMPULS 31WE. The trains are fitted with an additional retractable step to cover the gap between the train and the platform. These IMPULS trains are fitted with retention-tank toilets adapted to the needs of passengers with restricted mobility.
Electric Multiple Units (EMUs) manufactured by NEWAG S.A. are one of the most modern rail vehicles of its kind in Poland. Comfort of travelling is ensured by quiet, air-conditioned interior, ergonomic seats, Internet access and electric sockets. IMPULS trains are economical and safe – their electricity consumption is low due to energy recuperation to the overhead line. The train is equipped with a modern visual and audio passenger information system, interior monitoring and contact with the train crew through the intercom. The train meets strict European crashworthiness and resistance standards. Its maximum operating speed is 160 km/h.
The gross value of the contract was PLN 35 571 600 (PLN 28 920 000 net).
