The contract signed today is the biggest we have signed with the Podkarpackie Province,” said  Zbigniew Konieczek, President of NEWAG S.A.

“We have finalised the biggest contract that the Podkarpackie Province has signed so far – for the supply of electric and diesel multiple units. We will receive ten multiple units for PLN 200 million to be operated by Podkarpacka Kolej Aglomeracyjna [Podkarpacka Commuter Rail],” said Władysław Ortyl, Marshal of the Podkarpackie Province.

The ECTS ensures on-board signalling and supervision of the train driver’s work with an increased safety level. The system is based on digital data transmission by, among other, the Eurobalise, the Euro-loop, radio communication via GSM-R or STM modules. The passenger compartment is equipped with a passenger information system, a GPS monitoring system as well as comfortable seats and luggage shelves. Additionally, the EMUs have hanging racks for bicycles, a baby changing station and lifts for the disabled. A specially designed control panel surrounding the driver’s seat enables to notice objects located close to the train front. The IMPULS 2 operating speed is 160 km/h.

The 222Ma diesel multiple units for the Podkarpacie Province are two-unit vehicles of 43m in length. Each DMU will have passenger capacity of 257 passengers including 115 seating capacity.  Four doors (two on each side) will enable passengers to enter and leave the train fast.

The 222Ma DMUs is equipped with a passenger information system with fully integrated external LED information boards and internal LCD displays.

An interior monitoring system ensures passengers’ safety and an intercom enables to communicate with the driver’ s cab. The passenger compartment is air-conditioned and has windows enabling free ventilation and a passenger counting system. The DMUs are adapted to needs of passengers with restricted mobility with special designated spaces and ramps have been installed which facilitate boarding and de-boarding for passengers with restricted mobility, passengers with small children and cyclists. The maximum operational speed of 222Ma DMUs is 130 km/h.
